Optum is focused on transforming health care through innovative programs and solutions. The Sr. Healthcare Data Engineer role involves delivering scalable, data-driven solutions while collaborating with finance and accounting to enhance reporting processes and support strategic initiatives.
Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and deliver advanced analytics across healthcare data domains including capitation, utilization, claims, Medicare Advantage, and financial accounting data
- Serve as a Subject Matter Expert in healthcare financial and operational data, including Medicare Advantage plan structures and performance drivers
- Extract, transform, and analyze data from the Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) to support internal and external reporting needs
- Partner with Finance and Accounting teams to support forecasting, modeling, and strategic planning initiatives
- Build and maintain complex data models, queries, and reporting solutions for ad hoc and recurring analyses
- Enhance reporting methodologies and automate processes using analytic tools (e.g., Tableau) to improve accuracy, efficiency, and scalability
- Analyze benchmarking data and key managed care indicators to identify trends and support financial performance improvement
- Lead development of innovative data solutions that improve deliverables and operational efficiencies
- Function as a team lead by mentoring analysts, guiding technical development, and ensuring consistency in reporting outputs
- Collaborate cross-functionally to diagnose and resolve data integrity issues
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 4+ years of experience in a reporting and analytical role
- Proven solid understanding of healthcare financial data, including Medicare Advantage plans, claims, revenue recognition, and member accounting
- Proficiency in Tableau or similar analytic reporting tools
- Advanced SQL, SSMS, and Excel skills (or equivalent data tools)
- Demonstrated ability to work across large, complex datasets and translate findings into actionable insights
- 5+ years of reporting and analytics experience
- 3+ years of experience in a managed care environment
- 3+ years of experience in healthcare accounting, finance, or operations
