The Associate Vice President of Quality Engineering will oversee quality engineering for Humana's enterprise-scale insurance technology platforms, ensuring high delivery quality and modern quality practices across multiple teams.
Responsibilities:
- Define and execute the quality engineering strategy for Humana’s enterprise-scale insurance technology platforms, aligned to business priorities and enterprise direction
- Build, lead, and develop a high-performing organization of quality engineering leaders, engineers, and SDETs across multiple teams
- Promote a culture of shared quality ownership and 'built-in quality' within agile delivery teams
- Drive a scalable delivery model for quality engineering, including clear standards for execution, reusable assets, and consistent ways of working across teams
- Own end-to-end delivery quality outcomes across the insurance technology portfolio
- Ensure quality planning and execution across functional, integration, end-to-end, and regression validation
- Lead defect management practices including triage, root cause analysis, and prevention strategies to reduce escaped defects
- Provide release readiness assessments and technical release validation in partnership with Engineering and DevOps
- Coordinate production quality support, including incident quality analysis and post-release learning
- Drive AI- and automation-first quality engineering practices to improve speed, coverage, and confidence across the delivery lifecycle
- Establish and maintain segment-level automated regression capabilities, ensuring test suite reliability, maintainability, and business value
- Integrate quality signals into CI/CD pipelines (e.g., automated validations, quality gates, and actionable reporting) to support frequent, stable releases
- Leverage standards, patterns, and reusable assets established by the core Platform Quality Engineering team to promote consistency and scalability
- Partner with engineering teams to modernize test frameworks and automation approaches for distributed and cloud-native systems
- Coordinate non-functional testing strategies and execution (performance, reliability/resiliency, and operational readiness) across the portfolio
- Ensure security validation execution is aligned to enterprise standards and SDLC controls
- Promote risk-based testing approaches to balance speed, quality, and compliance expectations
- Partner with Product, Engineering, Architecture, Platform, and DevOps leaders to embed quality throughout the delivery lifecycle
- Influence engineering practices that improve reliability, scalability, and member/provider experience
- Align portfolio priorities with enterprise quality engineering direction, contributing to shared roadmaps and capability advancement
- Adhere to quality metrics, reporting, and governance processes established by the quality enablement team
- Partner with the enablement team to refine and evolve portfolio-relevant measures, insights, and governance routines
- Use quality insights to identify systemic improvement opportunities and drive maturity progress across teams
Requirements:
- 15+ years of experience in software engineering, quality engineering or testing
- Demonstrated experience leading quality engineering organizations supporting large-scale enterprise applications
- Proven success leading quality engineering modernization and transformation initiatives (automation, tooling, operating model, and metrics-driven execution)
- Experience managing senior leaders and geographically distributed teams
- Strong understanding of modern software delivery practices including Agile, DevOps, and CI/CD
- Familiarity with quality engineering approaches across API, UI, integration, and end-to-end validation within distributed and cloud-native architectures
- Strong executive communication and stakeholder management skills; ability to influence outcomes across product and engineering organizations
- Experience in healthcare, payer/insurance, or other highly regulated environments
- Familiarity with claims, enrollment, provider, or digital member experience platforms
