About this role
Role Overview
- Produce a minimum of 5-7 stories weekly which will appear on muskokaregion.com.
- Your stories will be available for upload to other media outlets and the many Metroland publication websites.
- Focus on civic journalism in the Huntsville and Lake of Bays areas.
- This may include covering Huntsville, Lake of Bays and Muskoka District councils, school boards, law enforcement, courts, fire departments, Crown corporations, government agencies, federal Parliament or provincial legislatures.
Requirements
- A journalism degree, diploma or equivalent experience is preferred.
- Keen to work independently in a virtual newsroom
- Ability to excel in a fast-paced, deadline driven and demanding environment
- Curious, team-oriented individual that can build professional relationships with team members and sources
- Strong interviewing, social media and online journalism skills matched with excellent writing and communication skills
- Proven news judgment and a strong work ethic
- Effective organizational skills, ability to manage time and prioritize tasks appropriately
- Photography skills
- Must have access to a vehicle and a valid driver’s license
