Assists the business development team in new project pursuits by providing input on RFPs/RFQs and participates in project interviews and presentations.
Manages technical project process and scope of work within own discipline; reviews and tracks scope, schedule, and budgeted hours; finds and resolves all inconsistencies with project manager.
Delegates tasks to project engineers and designers within own discipline as appropriate.
Follows quality management process; conducts project reviews and approvals before all QA/QC reviews done by the technical authority.
Builds and maintains strong client relations; able to understand and articulate project and design requirements, progress, challenges, and troubleshooting to clients and technical staff.
Leads technical discussions and mechanical workgroups with project stakeholders as their trusted advisor, identifies key requirements, and adapts design accordingly to meet the project objectives.
Coordinates well with all disciplines to fully integrate work and client requests into design.
Acts as supervisor and resource to technical design team; supports and assists staff education, training, and development.
Actively participates in the data center engineering/professional community to build personal knowledge, stay up-to-date date with new and upcoming requirements and technologies, and strives for professional growth (e.g. attends meetings / seminars / conferences and/or write articles for trade magazines.)
Identifies opportunities to improve and standardize project deliverables (details, specifications etc.) across Stantec MCF business centers.
Contributes to development of design guides, technical memos, calculation templates etc. as they pertain to data center design.
Requirements
Extensive experience in mission critical/data center design concepts.
Experience working on large scale projects with varied stakeholders.
Comprehensive knowledge of engineering practices, concepts, principles, codes, and standards in own discipline and basic knowledge of practices and principals in other disciplines.
Strong problem-solving skills.
Able to conceptualize and develop solutions for multifaceted systems and interactions with varied disparate components.
Strong communicator who effectively conveys scope, schedule, and budget to clients, co-workers, and technical teams (e.g. work plan, statement of work, and 2-way communication.)
Adept at writing comprehensive reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals.
Proficient in applicable software (Autodesk, BIM 360, Revit, Trace 700). Working knowledge or proficiency in hydraulic modeling software (e.g. Pipe-Flo) and CFD software (e.g. Fluent, 6Sigma) preferred.
Knowledge of the construction process and interaction with design.
Equipped to analyze, problem solve, and train others; organized and attentive to detail; flexible and collaborative.
Able to independently resolve complex problems within the engineer’s discipline.
Accredited engineering degree or equivalent experience required.
Minimum 10 years related industry experience preferred.
Mission critical / data center experience required.
Registered professional engineer (PE) license or other professional certification based on expertise required.
