Develops and implements segment-specific risk control strategies that align with corporate goals and regulatory expectations
Develops the overall strategy to support the underwriting vision for the individual segments and leads the team in the execution of that strategy
Serves as assigned segment subject matter expert to provide risk control strategic direction enterprise wide
Leads the team in the identification, evaluation, and mitigation of operational and regulatory risks within assigned segment(s) identifying key exposures to loss and developing the tools needed to mitigate the exposures
Establish and monitor KPIs such as billable hours, recommendation compliance rates, and ROI success stories
Leads the process of aligning risk control strategies and practices with short
and long-term underwriting strategies within business segment(s) in support of enterprise-wide business and profitability goals
Partners with Underwriting, Claims, and analytics teams to integrate risk insights into business decisions
Acts as a strategic partner and technical resource for field risk control and team members, and offers guidance on complex matters within assigned business segment(s)
Proactively communicates and makes necessary recommendations to Risk Control Leadership for improvements needed to meet company goals and improve risk control results
Ensure adherence to internal policies and external regulations, and provide timely reporting to senior leadership
Serves on special projects with other strategic partners within the organization as a representative of assigned business segment(s)
Serves as a subject matter expert and provides risk control segment expertise to departments within the company, including organizing and assisting in preparation and teaching of workshops and seminars for risk control staff
Develops training and white paper materials for policyholders and agents
Partners with brokers to build strong relationships and represents EMC Risk Control during sales proposals, agent meetings, regional territory planning
Oversees and monitors the workload and performance of the Segment team within Risk Control, and performs all duties expected of a people leader at EMC
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in safety, risk management, engineering, or equivalent relevant experience
Ten years of experience in casualty risk control, safety consulting, or related field, including at experience in all business segments in which EMC conducts business
Professional certifications such as CSP, ARM, or equivalent preferred
Strong knowledge of at least three of the six business segments in which EMC does business
Advanced understanding of risk exposures and mitigation strategies within assigned business segments
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex data
Excellent ability to advise, partner, influence and effectively consult with diverse internal and external stakeholders, including senior leaders, executives, and project owners
Excellent ability to distill and communicate highly complex issues for technical and non-technical audiences
Advanced ability to interpret and apply safety regulations and industry standards
Ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments
