Senior Substation Design Engineer

Role Overview

• Leads substation P&C and/or physical design, including the preparation of field notes, drawings, specifications, and estimates
• Performs careful QA/QC review activities submitted by junior engineers to ensure a quality product
• Prepare computer assisted design and construction drawings of a complex nature with neatness and a minimum of errors
• Perform engineering calculations such AC and DC load calculations required to properly size auxiliary systems
• Perform engineering calculations such as conduit and bus sizing, lighting & lightning analysis, and grounding grid analysis
• Ensure all designs conform to our client’s and industry standards
• Communicate and coordinate project activities with project manager, client, and others as needed
• Utilize client and/or company information system to track and update design activities
• Attend job site meetings to gather scope of work
• May provide field support during construction
• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an ABET approved college or university
• 9+ years of experience working in substation design or similar with utility or consulting engineering firm
• Proficient using Microsoft Office suite (e.g., Excel, Word, and Outlook)
• Strong analytical, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail
• Experience with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
