General supervision, training, and guidance of all Controls engineering designers that are part of his/her team.
Collaborates with Applications Engineering team in support of proposals and owns the jobs won from concept to through-life support.
Works with other members of the project team, both ATS and non-ATS, to develop a controls architecture that provides the functionality required, based on ATS standards and the customers controls specifications.
Participates in development and implementation of tools, methods and modules ensuring standards maintained.
Continuously improve methods and tools for integrating controls technology, driving enhanced safety and functionality.
Ensure that cost and schedule budgets are adhered to or improved upon.
Assign his/her team to the day to day direct labour activities.
Ensure, checks and approves that all work product produced by his/her design team members are acceptable based on the functionality, adherence to standards, accuracy, completeness, and consideration for safety.
Approve all material requisitions for projects assigned to his/her team.
Maintain labour, material and schedule forecast information and any appropriate execution improvement plans provided to Program Management for programs assigned to his/her team.
Ensure that scheduled milestones relating to controls engineering design and integration are achieved.
Provides primary technical assessments of team members to the department manager for performance evaluations with current and future personnel.
Collaborate with Controls Managers to set goals and manage successful performance for his/her team members.
Leads and mentors his/her team members.
Reviews and evaluates new controls related products to provide a cost effective, and up-to-date controls solution.
Works with team members, customers, project managers, designers, toolmakers, and electricians to solve problems in order to provide the customer with a product or service compliant with their requirements.
Ensure that all employees, under their direction, are aware of, and follow all Health and Safety procedures, established by the Company.
Requirements
A post-secondary diploma, degree or equivalent qualification, specializing in electrical, mechanical or software controls technology.
Demonstrated experience in an industrial development environment, producing controls for automated assembly systems.
Proven leadership qualities including; good oral and written communication skills, ability to work with and motivate team members, and a willingness to take responsibility for key aspects needed for job completion.
Hands-on experience in programming and trouble-shooting with current PLC hardware, and programming software.
