The Technical and Activity Support Services (SSTA) Directorate is responsible for providing strategic, operational, technical and other support services to the Transportation Department.
Reporting to the Program Manager, Communications and Stakeholder Relations, the incumbent must coordinate live-update activities across all transit modes, including monitoring social media, moderating social networks, and developing and coordinating social media content, public alerts, OCTV messages and Customer Service Centre communications.
Serves as a technical advisor and provides functional and administrative expertise related to live updates, and participates in the planning, coordination and implementation of the transit service’s live-update strategy and tactics.
Prepares and files progress reports at regular intervals on live-update activities, reviews upcoming activities and notifies staff, and coordinates and facilitates end-user training.
In addition, assists with special events and with emergency or crisis communications as required.
Requirements
Three-year university degree in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing or a related field.
Three years of experience in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing or media relations, including at least one year working in a social media-focused environment.
Experience in an IT training environment or in transit services is an asset.
Strong knowledge of social media dashboard applications (HootSuite and TweetDeck, among others), current social networks, the Microsoft Office suite, Photoshop and content management systems.
Effective communication tactics and techniques using traditional and web-based networks.
Knowledge of trends in the evolution of communications, and of the public transit industry and its methods.
Knowledge of local and current events.
Effective media relations.
Knowledge of City governance, initiatives, programs and services.
Knowledge of customer service requirements.
Knowledge of training evaluation and delivery.
Quality assurance procedures.
Knowledge of relevant health and safety legislation, including worker rights and responsibilities.
