Role Overview
- Ensure construction work is carried out according to plans, specifications, and safety standards
- Take full responsibility for decisions, quality of work, and efficient use of contract time, equipment, and materials
- Review and approve contract change orders, progress and final pay estimates, field reports, and related correspondence
- Prepare detailed reports and conduct engineering investigations to ensure compliance with applicable laws, ordinances, standards, plans, and specifications
- Assist the Construction Engineer with resolving construction contract claims
- Make recommendations for contract acceptance based on project performance and quality
- Ensure compliance with traffic control, environmental regulations, hazardous waste protocols, and stormwater pollution prevention standards
- Assist in monitoring safety-related activities throughout the construction process
- Oversee Traffic Management planning and implementation
- Ensure compliance with labor and civil rights regulations related to the project
- Coordinate project resources, including equipment, vehicles, office space, construction staking requests, and overtime
- Ensure that project records are accurately maintained according to the Construction Manual or Project Manuals
- Serve as the main point of communication with staff, technical personnel from outside agencies, contractors, and the public
- Maintain frequent communication with City and County representatives, private contractors, and the traveling public
- Effectively engage with contractor personnel, property owners, and internal team members to resolve project issues and facilitate smooth operations
- Demonstrate strong communication skills essential for collaboration and successful project execution
Requirements
- Bachelors degree in civil engineering, Construction Management, or a related field
- Registration as a California Professional Engineer (PE) is required
- Approximately 10 years of experience in Construction Management, particularly on public works or transportation projects
- At least 3 years of supervisory experience managing major construction contracts
- Valid California Class C drivers license
- Contractor experience (e.g., Project Manager, Superintendent, Engineer) is highly desirable
