About this role
Role Overview
Reviews medical record documentation to determine appropriate billing codes and necessary documentation
Reviews documentation to identify pertinent facts necessary for coding diagnoses and procedures
Codes evaluation, management, and diagnosis to appropriate codes
Meets with physicians to review documentation and resolve coding issues
Acts as lead person and assists coders with medical terminology and policy interpretation
Prepares case reports and initiates follow-up for billing process
Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements
A diploma, certification or degree is not required
Must have one of the following coding credentials: AHIMA (CCA, CCS, or CCS-P); AAPC (CPC, CPC-A, CPC-H, CPC-H-A, or one of the AAPC specialty-specific coding credentials)
Preferred: Previous coding experience or experience equivalent to an associate’s degree in a related field
Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding
