Role Overview
- Perform skilled and safety-sensitive work in the construction, operation, maintenance, and repair of the village’s electric distribution system
- Operate specialized vehicles and heavy equipment
- Complete work orders
- Respond to outages and emergencies
- Support day-to-day electric utility operations
- Work with high-voltage electrical equipment and infrastructure, including overhead and underground distribution lines, transformers, and associated appurtenances
- Subject to mandatory on-call duty and emergency response at all hours
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid Class A commercial driver’s license
- At least eight years of experience in the electric line trade, or completion of an accredited lineman training program with documented experience
- Experience performing high-voltage electrical work on distribution systems
- Ability to climb utility poles and structures and successfully complete pole-top safety and rescue procedures
- Ability to operate line trucks and heavy equipment, including bucket trucks, digger derricks, backhoes, track hoes and skid steers
- Ability to pass required pre-employment drug screening and background checks
- Availability for mandatory on-call rotation, including nights, weekends and holidays
- Preferred: Journeyman Lineman certification or current enrollment in a Journeyman Lineman program; experience working in a municipal electric utility environment
