Designs and architects IT systems that integrate process, applications, data, and technology, ensuring alignment with business goals, enterprise IT standards, architecture principles, and strategic direction.
Performs planning, problem-solving, and advising technical teams to optimize solutions that are strategic, operational, secure, and economical.
Ensures an integrated architecture across interdependent technology systems including a combination of on-premises and cloud environments.
Participates in the creation of the enterprise architecture principles for BMO.
Partners with internal stakeholders to define and maintain North Star, as is, and interim state architectures, as well as Application Solution Guides, Position Papers and logical roadmaps which may encompass data (flows, consumption, placements) business, and technical considerations.
Provides expertise regarding architecture in critical programs, validates architecture for adherence to defined policies, standards and guidelines including regulatory directives.
Creates and manages key architecture assets for the designated portfolio and business scope, including reference and target architectures and business capability models.
Identifies risks or issues with technology solution and design that may impact realization of project benefits; guides and supports stakeholders to make decisions that proactively resolve or mitigate potential project risks/delays.
Identifies and researches relevant technologies, performs proofs of concept / prototypes, and recommends the applications of such technologies for future product architecture.
Delivers innovative solutions tailored to the specific needs of the organization.
Involved in Business capability mapping, technology capability mapping (cloud, data, emerging technologies)
Provides input into the preparation of business case by providing key architectural insights on feasibility, risks, and alignment with enterprise strategy
Stays abreast of industry technical and business trends through participation in professional associations, practice communities, and individual learning.
Manages architectural projects of moderate complexity.
Works as an integral part of larger initiatives.
Focus is primarily on business/group within BMO; may have broader, enterprise-wide focus.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (computer science, data, engineering, cyber security) or equivalent combination of education and experience
Typically 5-7 years experience in architecture alone (application architecture, security architecture, or data architecture) as a data architect or solution architect
Experience with cloud stacks (AWS and/or Azure), Operations (DevOps/DevSecOps/MLOps), building distributed, data intensive applications using various technology stacks (e.g. Redshift, Data Fabric) is an asset
Experience using design tools (Archimate)
Experience with data visualization is an asset
Experience working in enterprise settings (Banking, FI or other highly regulated industry)
Exhibits knowledge of data architecture concepts and practices.
Demonstrates knowledge of architecture frameworks, methodologies, and tools. (e.g., possesses The Open Group Architecture Framework [TOGAF] accreditation).
Possesses strong familiarity with Architecture frameworks such as TOGAF, including concepts and metrics such as Architecture Capability Maturity Evaluation (e.g., ACMM).
