Act as compliance representative on projects involving Group Benefits, Group Retirement Services and Freedom Experience.
Interpret new and updated legislation of the various provincial jurisdictions and regulatory authorities.
Participate in regulatory update reviews and research legislation to provide constructive input into emerging rules and regulations and to provide appropriate guidance to the business on potential impacts.
Help make sure legislative changes have appropriate Group Benefits, Group Retirement Services and Freedom Experience awareness and engagement, as applicable.
Manage timelines to ensure regulatory changes and project work are completed within the defined schedules.
Research and respond to compliance and product & services inquiries from the administration teams and distribution channels you support.
Liaise with other compliance departments within Canada Life.
Collaborate with all operation teams you support to help sustain projects, changes and other initiatives.
Develop and maintain relationships with external parties including provincial and federal authorities as well as industry partners.
Help implement regulatory compliance controls such as licensing, accessibility and privacy.
Assist in maintaining licensing oversight.
Create and update compliance policies, practices, and guidelines to comply with emerging regulatory requirements.
Review and assist business unit in timely resolution of privacy breaches; help take corrective action, as required.
Review and assist business unit in handling complaints.
Review sales calls and provide feedback to leaders.
Review new product or business requests and determine impact to contractual material and applications; work with impacted areas to apply the changes to the affected material.
Requirements
Post-secondary education preferred; however, applicants with an equivalent level of training or experience will be considered.
Minimum of 4 years of experience in a financial services industry role with operational risk and compliance related accountabilities.
Experience in compliance, in group or individual health and life insurance or group retirement will be an asset.
Knowledge of pension legislation.
Familiarity with the concept of managing risk is required.
Ability to review and interpret complex material.
Mature self-starter who assumes ownership of problems and identifies creative solutions.
Strong organization skills, and the ability to handle multiple priorities independently.
Dedicated team player, keen on sharing knowledge, skills and ideas with team members and business partners.
Strong interpersonal skills and relationship management; ability to foster working relationships with all business partners at all levels, both internal and external to the organization.
