Roadway Designer I

Role Overview

• Develops and prepares roadway design plans and specifications using CADD software
• Performs engineering calculations, coordinates with support offices, and provides technical support throughout project development and construction
• Assists in performing complex engineering/ geometric calculations in the development of project design
• Develops alignment and grade including horizontal curves and vertical curves
• Assists in preparing and presenting design details and concepts at public meetings, local agency workshops and internal staff meetings

Requirements

• A high school diploma or its equivalent
• Knowledge of concepts, terminologies, design principles and analytical techniques of highway design
• Skills in the engineering process for production of highway construction plans
• Ability to establish and maintain effective internal and external working relationships
• Ability to apply engineering quantitative techniques in the area of highway design
