Assist with the planning and execution of ground investigations
develop conceptual ground models based on existing information and prepare project-specific ground investigation strategies
produce ground investigation specifications along with Bill of Quantities
supervise and/ or carry out borehole and trial pit logging
select soil and rock samples for laboratory testing
carry out in-situ testing and site observations
Undertake site reconnaissance and basic geological mapping under supervision, including rock mass characterisation (e.g., rock mass classification, discontinuity assessment, etc.)
Support the supervision of ground investigation and construction-related activities
Collect, process, and manage ground investigation data
Assist with the interpretation of ground conditions and development of engineering geological ground models
Support the preparation of desk studies, ground investigation reports, and factual and interpretative reports
Carry out routine calculations and contribute to preliminary geotechnical assessments
Liaise with senior geologists, engineers, contractors, and laboratories
Support health, safety, and quality standards on site and in the office
Perform other duties as required to support project delivery
Some fieldwork within the UK and occasional overseas travel will be required
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Engineering Geology, or a related discipline
A Master’s degree in Engineering Geology or Geotechnical Engineering is desirable
0–2 years of relevant postgraduate or internship experience
Strong academic grounding in geology and/ or geotechnical principles
A clear interest in engineering geology, ground investigation, and geotechnical design
Eligibility and motivation to work towards Chartership (Geological Society / ICE / IOM3)
Possess a valid driver’s license in good standing and reliable transportation access to remote job site locations, in addition to availability to travel occasionally overseas
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
Good analytical skills with strong attention to detail
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Willingness to undertake site-based work in varied environment
Proactive attitude, enthusiasm to learn, and professional demeanor
Familiarity with industry software (e.g. OpenGround, Leapfrog, GIS, or geotechnical analysis tools) is advantageous but not essential
