Understand underwriting policies, guidelines, practices, and procedures
Determine whether to accept, modify, or decline a risk through evaluation of an individual's risk profile including medical history, occupational hazards, financial background, etc.
Build trust by providing efficient, quality service to our MMFA agents, brokers, and field office staff
Communicate effectively with the field to explain underwriting decisions and facilitate placement of business
Tailor communication style to fit a variety of target audiences
Collaborate with stakeholders to gather information necessary for decision-making and selecting profitable risks
Influence and champion changes to improve processes
Requirements
High school diploma or GED
5+ years of proven success underwriting disability insurance in a fast-paced work environment
$7K+ approval authority in disability insurance underwriting
Bachelor’s degree (preferred)
8+ years of proven success underwriting individual disability insurance
Approval limits of $10K+ IDI, $15K+ BOE, $250K+ Buy/Sell without a second signature (preferred)
Business Overhead and Buy Sell disability underwriting experience (preferred)
Industry exams completed, e.g., ALU 101, 201, 202, LOMA, ALMI, FMLI, ALU, FALU, DIA, DIF (preferred)
Demonstrated knowledge of all aspects of risk selection (medical, non-medical, financial)
Ability to think critically and problem solve using data
