About this role
Role Overview
Manage a portfolio of UK SME clients within a practice environment
Prepare and review statutory accounts under UK GAAP (FRS 105, FRS 102 Section 1A, and full FRS 102 where applicable)
Deliver high-quality management accounts and monthly reporting packs
Oversee VAT returns and statutory compliance submissions
Provide value-added advisory support to SME clients, including: Cash flow analysis, Budgeting and forecasting, Business performance insights
Act as a key point of contact for clients, building strong relationships
Liaise with auditors, tax specialists, and internal teams to ensure compliance
Identify and implement efficiencies to improve month-end and reporting timelines
Review accounts prepared by junior and offshore production teams
Ensure technical accuracy and compliance with UK accounting standards
Provide structured feedback and support team development
Assist the Production/Practice Manager with workflow planning and delivery
Support monthly practice performance and resourcing discussions
Monitor deadlines, ensuring timely delivery across the client portfolio
Maintain CRM/practice management systems tracking WIP and deadlines
Support onboarding of new SME clients into the practice
Conduct initial financial reviews and identify key risks/opportunities
Provide clear action plans for delivery teams
Ensure compliance requirements and deadlines are clearly communicated
Assist in planning and monitoring Work in Progress (WIP)
Requirements
ACA / ACCA / CIMA qualified (or equivalent)
3–6 years’ post-qualification experience within UK practice or SME-focused environments
Strong technical knowledge of UK GAAP (FRS 102 / FRS 105)
Proven experience working with UK SMEs in a client-facing capacity
Comfortable managing a client portfolio within a practice setting
Strong systems experience (cloud accounting platforms, practice software, CRM tools)
Excellent communication skills with a professional, client-centric approach
Proactive mindset with a focus on continuous improvement and efficiency
Commitment to ongoing professional development (e.g., UK tax updates, technical training)
