Lead and manage litigation matters from inception through resolution, including conducting legal research and analysis, coordinating case reviews with the Legal team, and ensuring adherence to case strategy and management timelines.
Engage and collaborate with outside litigation counsel as needed and maintain litigation reporting and metrics to support effective case management.
Draft, review, and file pleadings with the appropriate forums and represent the company at arbitration hearings as required.
Research, draft, and review legal documents, including correspondence with opposing and outside counsel, responses to subpoenas, and complaint responses.
Develop comprehensive knowledge of the company’s business processes, products, and systems and serve as a legal resource to internal stakeholders on matters related to marketing, loan servicing, and applicable consumer protection laws.
Conduct ongoing research on applicable federal and state laws governing the collection and servicing of consumer loan accounts and apply that knowledge to day-to-day legal guidance.
Monitor new and evolving consumer regulations, distill key changes into clear and actionable summaries, and communicate updates to the Legal Department for distribution to relevant stakeholders.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and support the review and drafting of contract terms.
Communicate effectively with senior leadership and business partners on significant legal projects and emerging issues.
Partner with colleagues across the Legal team to deliver practical, forward-looking guidance on new and existing business initiatives.
Manage and execute projects, assignments, and other deliverables as directed by Legal team leadership.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
Juris Doctor degree from ABA accredited law school is required.
Active membership in good standing with a state bar.
Deep subject-matter knowledge of revolving lines of credit and consumer credit products.
Minimum 5 years of legal experience in consumer finance, with demonstrated proficiency in risk management and deft navigation of the following laws and regulations: TILA/Reg. Z, the Credit CARD Act, GLBA/Reg. P, FCRA/Reg. V, FDCPA, ECOA/Reg. B, CAN-SPAM, TCPA, the Bankruptcy Code, and other statutes affecting payments and consumer credit products.
Proven ability to manage competing priorities, work independently, and drive tasks to completion with minimal oversight.
Excellent legal drafting, written communication, and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
High attention to detail, responsiveness, and adaptability in a fast-paced environment.
Solid grounding in legal principles, research methodology, legal terminology, and government regulations.
Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and discretion.
