Build and maintain Hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) test systems and integrate physical devices (relays, controllers, meters)
Develop real time simulation models for equipment including battery, generators, inverters, PV, transformers, and electric grid
Perform simulation studies to investigate interactions between different generation resources and hardware components
Design and implement control algorithms in IEC 61131 based languages (e.g. structured text, function blocks) for Power Plant Controller to control entire power plant in off-grid or grid connected operations
Perform system commissioning, testing and validation
Maintain excellent documentation capturing controller designs, project timelines and presentations for stakeholder communication
Interface with program management, project management and project engineers to help deliver controls functionality and performance according to the project specifications
Requirements
Bachelor’s/Masters/PhD Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
3+ years of experience in setting up and running real-time digital simulators to perform HIL simulations
Expertise creating detailed models of battery energy storage systems, generators, power electronics converters, gas turbines, and electrical networks and components
Proficiency in RSCAD, PSCAD and other simulation tools
Thorough understanding of three phase power system operation and power flow
Knowledge of inverter operation and control
Experience with PLC programming (structured text, ladder logic)
Excellent verbal, written and documentation skills
Ability to work as a key member on a development team
Ability to interface well with internal and external customers
Demonstrated history of delivering quality products to market with understanding and respect for all phases of the product development process, especially requirements, specification development, and release control.
