Prepare and review detailed design documentation for BESS & Hybrid Generation Systems including single line diagrams, design specifications, sizing calculations, general arrangement drawings and other electrical designs.
Lead the delivery of BESS Owners Engineers Projects conducting design and construction reviews ensuring all designs comply with Australian Standards, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements.
Provide engineering support for development of utility scale BESS projects, ensuring alignment with technical specifications, contract requirements, and stakeholder coordination.
Collaborate with procurement and commercial contract teams to ensure delivery of projects to agreed technical specifications, evaluate vendor proposals, and select suitable technologies and equipment.
Provide hands-on engineering support during project execution, including site visits, troubleshooting, and technical oversight for successful commissioning.
Develop concept designs and feasibility sizing, specifications and selection of BESS, Hybrid Generation and Balance of Plant (BOP) equipment.
Develop designs and concept engineering for connection of systems to the national electricity market, working with grid team to understand key requirements of high voltage network connection and inputs into grid studies.
Work closely with Development Managers, engineers and suppliers to review design inputs, schedule planning, progress reporting and technical query resolution.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field
Professional experience in electrical engineering including utility scale BESS or Hybrid Generation Projects
Strong understanding of energy storage technologies including lithium-ion batteries
Strong understanding of the Australian Renewable Energy industry and operation of the National Energy Market
High level diagnostic and analytical ability in working with complex systems
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate within a multi-disciplinary team
Prior experience in technical due diligence, owner's engineering, advisory services, and feasibility studies for renewable energy projects and/or energy storage systems (desirable)
Strong knowledge of BESS technologies, grid integration, and power system modelling (desirable)
Familiarity with relevant standards (such as IEC, IEEE, AS/NZS) and understanding of safety, grid compliance, planning requirements and regulatory requirements for energy storage assets (desirable)
