develop, validate, and sustain complex powertrain components and systems that set industry benchmarks for performance, efficiency, cost, reliability, and safety
develop and analyze mechanical axle products, components, and systems—particularly hypoid and helical gearsets, as well as structural elements such as heavy-duty rear axle housings and front steer axle I-beams
support product development, evaluate the lifecycle reliability of designs and processes, and collaborate with marketing and industrial design teams to deliver products that meet both technical and cost requirements
analyze failure rates, lifecycle durability, and reliability data and recommend design/test changes based on reliability insights to ensure reliability of product designs and processes over their lifecycle
identify and implement ideas to lower costs and increase powertrain efficiency while ensuring product reliability
draw conclusions and provide recommendations of technical results to the management team
create project plans and timelines, assisting management with defining budget requirements
lead the development, validation, and release of mechanical components and systems with interfaces to mechatronics systems for conventional and alternative powertrain systems
utilize structured problem-solving methods to identify root causes for powertrain system issues and integrate corrective actions into new and existing designs
independently schedule work including issuing work orders, monitoring progress, and resolving problems to ensure timely completion of projects
conduct and document project work, draw conclusions, and make recommendations for review with management
lead cross-functional activities with regional and global counterparts in Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, Sales, Purchasing, and Global Suppliers
communicate effectively and maintain professional/social interaction in a multi-cultural and international environment
Requirements
Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering
5 years (60 months) of relevant industry experience
Must have 5 years of experience with heavy-duty truck front and rear axle component and system development
Must have experience with: heavy-duty commercial vehicle design and analytical thought to independently solve complex problems with minimal guidance and identify solutions to ensure product reliability; design of heavy-duty conventional and electric axle components; electrical and conventional heavy-duty commercial vehicle development and project lead; Analytical failure analysis and data management systems; and High Voltage Training Level 3 certification with practical experience and applied knowledge
Domestic and international travel is required, as needed, up to 20% per year
