Role Overview
Perform engineering analysis and design for overhead transmission lines, including structure loading, conductor sag/tension, foundations, and line routing
Prepare construction packages including plan & profile drawings, structure selection, material specifications, and engineering calculations
Utilize industry‑standard software such as PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, PLS-TOWER, and related tools
Support project lifecycle activities including scope development, cost estimating, scheduling, and field support
Ensure compliance with all applicable codes, standards, and guidelines (NESC, ASCE, company standards)
Coordinate with internal teams (siting/permitting, substation engineering, project management) and external stakeholders (contractors, vendors, regulatory bodies)
Provide engineering support during construction, including responding to RFIs and performing field verifications
Maintain accurate documentation and contribute to continuous improvement of design standards
Identify and mitigate site issues such as geotechnical conditions, access and environmental constraints and constructability challenges by providing timely technical support
Interact with customer’s internal engineers and technical experts on a day-to-day basis
Develop and maintain professional relationships with clients
Assist with the developing task and effort estimates for proposal support
Work to maintain positive working relationships with peers
Occasional travel required to other AECOM locations and Client sites
Able to participate in field walks and create field sketches, take dimensions, climb ladders, etc. as necessary
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field + 2 years of relevant experience or a demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification
Understanding of transmission line design principles (loading criteria, structural analysis, conductor behavior, foundations)
Experience with CAD or engineering design tools; familiarity with PLS-CADD strongly preferred.
Currently working towards Professional Engineer (PE) License is a plus
Experience with high-voltage transmission projects (69-500 kV)
Familiarity with NESC, ASCE 48, ASCE 10, and utility design standards
Experience preparing engineering packages for capital projects
Field experience supporting construction or inspections
Familiarity with utility transmission standards
Self-motivated
Effective written and verbal communication skills
Success in working with remote teams
Experience on full EPC, Design/Build projects from start to finish
Owner’s Engineering experience
Experience with retrofit or brown field projects
Exposure to supporting renewable generation projects
Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
