Role Overview
- Develop mounting brackets, enclosures, class A surfaces, and structural interfaces for sensors (cameras, LiDAR, radar, IMUs), compute units, and ancillary hardware onto vehicle platforms.
- Create detailed part and assembly models using Onshape including GD&T-compliant drawings for fabrication and vendor sourcing.
- Collaborate with cross functional teams to define physical routing paths for wire harnesses, fluid lines, and cooling components within tight mechanical envelopes.
- Design and select appropriate sealing, gasketing, and protective enclosures (IP-rated) to safeguard sensitive electronics from moisture, dust, and contamination.
- Hands-on participation in prototype builds, including hardware installation, fit-check validation, and iterative design refinement on the shop floor.
- Perform first-order hand calculations and collaborate with analysis teams to validate designs for static loads, vibration fatigue, and thermal dissipation.
- Work with fabrication vendors and contract manufacturers to source custom brackets, enclosures, and machined components from RFQ through delivery.
- Design non-invasive mechanical integration solutions for OEM donor vehicles, preserving factory structure and serviceability while accommodating new autonomous hardware.
- Partner with electrical, software, and field teams during bring-up and validation phases to resolve fit, form, and function issues on prototype machines.
- Maintain accurate Bills of Materials, assembly drawings, and integration documentation throughout the product lifecycle.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field, or equivalent experience
- 10+ years of experience in mechanical design and integration for vehicles, heavy machinery, robotics, or industrial equipment.
- Strong hands-on experience with 3D CAD such as Onshape, SolidWorks, CATIA, or Siemens NX; familiarity with PDM/PLM systems a plus.
