Administers prescribed radiation therapy treatment in an efficient and courteous manner
Escorts customer to and from the treatment room in a timely manner and administers treatment delivery as prescribed by physician.
Ensures information recorded in the chart is appropriate, accurate and legible, including documentation in Aria and Cerner (i.e. orders, QCL's and charges).
Explains the treatment procedure, answers appropriate questions and directs the customer to other support staff when appropriate.
Competent in all aspects of Aria and Cerner (i.e. entering and scheduling new patients, enter and print daily charges and schedules accurately)
Assures quality delivery of care to the customers.
Verifies patient treatment delivery as prescribed with weekly/daily/cone beam verification x-rays.
Performs weekly chart checks noting upcoming changes in the customer care plan.
Performs equipment quality checks daily to assure performance within designated parameters.
Stay current with all aspects of billing in accordance with the state guidelines.
Assist with pre-authorization forms as indicated.
Communicates effectively with customer, clinical staff and others.
Evaluates the customer's general health daily through observation and dialogue with open-ended questions.
Communicates information to the nurse, and/or physician, and about the customer as required or appropriate, including side effects, reactions and dietary needs.
Shows respect for others by listening attentively and receptively.
Maximizes efficiency of workflow daily to accommodate the needs of the clinic.
Prioritizes tasks to adapt to the demands of the clinical schedule daily.
Demonstrates flexibility and perseverance when clinical workload is challenging.
Takes initiative to be industrious in performing other clinical duties when the linear accelerator schedule is free of activity
Facilitates teamwork with co-workers.
Anticipates upcoming schedule needs and initiates preparation efforts, including the scheduling of patients and fabricating cerrobend blocks.
Assures cooperative measures are taken during workday for fair distribution of tasks.
Gathers all available data necessary to assure accurate treatment prior to delivery.
Demonstrates ability to analyze whether treatment data information matches prescription.
Maintains composure with new or difficult situations.
Ensure documentation is correct, approved and signed prior to treatment.
Practices radiation safety and uses appropriate aseptic techniques.
Addresses supervising therapist with concerns related to clinical duties and responsibilities in a professional manner.
Follows guidelines and procedures as communicated by lead therapist.
Reports any appropriate clinical updates or changes to lead therapist in a timely manner.
Attends mandatory in-services and continuing education programs as mandated by policies and procedures, and as directed by lead therapist.
Requirements
Bachelor's of Science Radiation Therapy certification program required.
Satisfactory completion of annual mandatory education requirements.
Approximately 6-12 months of on the job experience preferable to gain knowledge of departmental policies and procedures.
Iowa Medical Radiographer (RAD.IA) license required.
American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification in Radiography (R) required.
American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification in Radiation Therapy (T) required.
Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) strongly preferred at time of hire, required within 3 months of hire.
Knowledge in Radiation Therapy principles and practices required.
Strong interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate, and interact with patients, family members, hospital personnel, and co-workers.
