Role Overview
- Define and evolve the data architecture for the Submissions platform
- Design and maintain the core manuscript and submission domain data models
- Establish domain-driven data boundaries across platform capabilities
- Define scalable data access patterns and integration strategies
- Design API-based and event-driven data flows
- Guide engineering teams in implementing robust, scalable data solutions
- Support the evolution of legacy systems into modern, platform-based architectures
- Help establish data governance, ownership, and lineage practices
- Enable a data-centric platform strategy that supports analytics, AI, and enterprise reuse
Requirements
- Strong experience in data architecture and domain modelling
- Experience applying Domain-Driven Design (DDD) principles
- Expertise in conceptual, logical, and physical data modelling
- Experience designing multi-tenant data architectures
- Strong SQL and relational database design skills
- Experience with PostgreSQL, MySQL, or cloud-native databases
- Data Platforms & Integration Experience with data platforms such as Snowflake or data lakes
- Designing ETL / ELT pipelines
- Experience with event-driven architectures
- API design experience (REST, GraphQL, OpenAPI)
- Modern Architecture Microservices architecture
- Event streaming and messaging platforms
- Distributed systems design
- Collaboration & Leadership Experience working closely with software engineering teams
- Ability to guide technical implementation and reduce architectural complexity
- Experience modernizing legacy systems into scalable architectures
- Understanding of data governance, lineage, and data ownership practices
