Serve as Payscale's primary subject matter expert on federal, state, and local labor and employment law, advising senior leadership and business teams on the full spectrum of workplace legal issues including hiring, performance management, terminations, wage and hour compliance, benefits, leave administration, accommodations, workplace investigations, employee relations, global mobility, pay equity and transparency, etc.
Partner with Payscale's People team and business leaders to provide practical, risk
balanced guidance and help reach decisions in complex situations.
Partner with Payscale's Product and Marketing teams to provide employment law subject matter expertise that informs product development, ensuring our software and data product offerings reflect current legal requirements and market best practices.
Draft employment-related agreements, templates, policies, and forms (e.g., leave of absence policies, employment agreements, policies, separation agreements).
Prepare and deliver training, in close collaboration with Payscale's People team, on employment law topics for managers and business leaders.
Conduct periodic reviews, audits, and compliance assessments of employment-related policies to support compliance with laws and regulations.
Monitor evolving employment laws and regulations globally and translate them into clear, actionable, and scalable guidance for Payscale's People team.
Proactively draft, maintain, and update legal research memos and resources to advise business teams of developments and emerging risks that may impact the business.
Manage litigation, arbitrations, investigations and disputes, including both direct handling of matters in-house as well as strategic oversight of outside counsel to ensure effective and efficient legal service.
Draft legal documents, conduct legal research, and help assist in discovery as required.
Serve as a subject matter expert with respect to dispute resolution, including e-discovery, the legal hold process, and mediation/arbitration or trial.
Develop and implement legal strategies and provide legal advice to help achieve business objectives and minimize legal risks.
Requirements
JD degree; active membership in at least one U.S. state bar
5+ years of related experience, with a combination of law firm and in-house experience strongly preferred.
Proven track record of serving as a trusted employment law advisor to HR teams and business leaders, with the ability to translate complex legal requirements into practical guidance.
Expertise across a range of employment law disciplines, including Title VII, ADA, FMLA,FLSA, ADEA, WARN Act, NLRA, and state and local equivalents.
Experience managing litigation and disputes.
Excellent verbal and written communication, analytical and interpersonal skills.
Excellent judgment and the ability to independently manage a diverse portfolio of matters in a fast-paced, remote-first technology environment.
This role reports directly to the General Counsel.
