About this role
Role Overview
- Provide scientific and technical support to conduct interagency consultations under the Endangered Species Act (ESA), Magnuson-Stevens Act (MSA), Marine Mammal Protection Act (MMPA), Federal Power Act (FPA), and NEPA.
- Review, gather, analyze, and synthesize scientific data to evaluate environmental impacts to listed species and habitats
- Draft ESA Biological Opinions, Letters of Concurrence, and MSA responses
- Review Biological Assessments and consultation packages
- Provide pre-consultation technical assistance to action agencies
- Prepare NEPA documentation (EAs/EISs)
- Draft permits and supporting materials for ESA section 10 activities
- Coordinate with NMFS Science Centers, engineers, and interagency partners
- Maintain administrative records and consultation tracking systems
- Participate in meetings with federal, tribal, and state stakeholders
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree and 3+ experience OR Master’s degree in aquatic biology, conservation biology, fisheries management, wildlife management or related field of study with 1+ years of experience relating to the specific task order
- Knowledge of salmonid general life cycles and habitat requirements
- Strong technical writing and communication skills
- Valid state driver’s license
- Experience drafting ESA and NEPA regulatory documents
- Knowledge of ESA, MSA, NEPA, and related statutes
- Experience evaluating impacts to salmonids and aquatic habitats
- Experience working with federal, tribal, and state partners
