Role Overview
independently handle an inventory of litigated and non-litigated files
advise and mentor less senior attorneys
apply independent analysis and judgment to prepare discovery, legal pleadings, trial briefs, etc. with close coordination and input from claims specialists
appear and advocate on behalf of CSAA IG and our member insureds
conduct all phases of personal injury litigation including jury trials, motions, and arbitration hearings
handle complex legal matters or projects including matters not in litigation
identify issues with major implications, high liability exposure, special circumstances and/or departure from guidelines
refer to higher level staff for review and possible assignment of additional resources
Requirements
5-8+ years of experience in insurance defense practice with courtroom and first or second chair trial experience
Ability to work collaboratively with assigned paralegal(s) and support staff
Requires law degree
License to practice law in California required
Skilled in personal injury litigation including liability assessment, causation, damages, coverage, personal injury damages and causation and the tri-partite relationship
Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in an organized and timely manner
Proficient computer skills, including MS office and online research tools
Ability to advocate creatively, persuasively and effectively
The ability to think and act independently in a client’s best interest
Knowledge, understanding, and appreciation of legal ethics
