Role Overview
- independently handle an inventory of litigated and non-litigated files
- advise and mentor less senior attorneys
- apply independent analysis and judgment to prepare discovery, legal pleadings, trial briefs, etc. with close coordination and input from claims specialists
- appear and advocate on behalf of CSAA IG and our member insureds
- conduct all phases of personal injury litigation including jury trials, motions, and arbitration hearings
- handle complex legal matters or projects including matters not in litigation
- identify issues with major implications, high liability exposure, special circumstances and/or departure from guidelines
- refer to higher level staff for review and possible assignment of additional resources
Requirements
- 5-8+ years of experience in insurance defense practice with courtroom and first or second chair trial experience
- Ability to work collaboratively with assigned paralegal(s) and support staff
- Requires law degree
- License to practice law in California required
- Skilled in personal injury litigation including liability assessment, causation, damages, coverage, personal injury damages and causation and the tri-partite relationship
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in an organized and timely manner
- Proficient computer skills, including MS office and online research tools
- Ability to advocate creatively, persuasively and effectively
- The ability to think and act independently in a client’s best interest
- Knowledge, understanding, and appreciation of legal ethics
