This position works under supervision and reads and interprets health record documentation to identify all diagnoses and procedures that affect the outpatient encounter visit
Assess the adequacy of the health record documentation to ensure it supports all diagnoses and procedures to which codes are assigned
Apply knowledge of anatomy and physiology, clinical disease processes, pharmacology, and diagnostic and procedural terminology to assign accurate codes to diagnoses and procedures
Maintain understanding of ICD-10 and CPT coding classification systems
Review and perform data charge entry to both hospital and physician patient accounting systems for the outpatient clinic visit
Organize work to ensure all assigned work queues are reviewed and appropriately prioritized on a daily basis
Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
High School Diploma or GED
Understanding of CPT and ICD-10
One of the following certifications: CCA, CCS, CPC, RHIT or RHIA
Preferred Qualification: Associates or Bachelor's in Health Information Management
Two (2) years of coding experience
