Researches, develops, designs, and tests electrical components, equipment, systems, and networks
Designs electrical equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and domestic purposes
Develops a thorough understanding of the electrical design with emphasis on the digital control system
Duties include troubleshooting support for operational fleet and new construction issues
Responsible for new unit procurement technical support and deliverable approvals
Maintenance of technical ordering requirements, and component technical manuals
Development of field change packages
Lifecycle design management to include; regular maintenance requirements reviews
Development of field change proposals, documentation of drawings and design bases, parts catalogue and obsolescence management, sustainability and design improvement initiatives
Requirements
Bachelor's Degree and 9 years of relevant exempt experience; Master’s Degree and 7 years of relevant professional experience; Ph.D. and 4 years of experience
Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program
Experience supporting Navy/DoD programs, preferably Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Experience with end-user support and troubleshooting
Experience working with suppliers on product development and improvement
Detailed design knowledge of power-generating equipment at a large scale
