Perform tax consulting and advisory services related to Research and Development (R&D) tax credits
Perform R&D tax credit studies, quantifying R&D activities and costs, compiling proper documentation and support, and developing an overall methodology to assist the company in quantifying and supporting past, current, and future credits
Assist with IRS and federal and state controversy and appeals related to the R&D credit
Interact with both internal tax professionals and external client stakeholders
Perform tax planning and research, resolving complex tax issues, and giving recommendations to clients, as it relates specifically to the R&D credit
Develop and sustain excellent client relationships through personal attention and timeliness of service by maintaining regular contact with assigned clients
Communicate directly with client personnel, including operations, finance, accounting, and engineering
Assist in managing and implementing multiple projects simultaneously, including client interviews, computations, analysis, data gathering, and coordination of resources
Develop an understanding of client's business and become a "functional expert"
Help drive the success of multiple R&D engagements
Participate in feasibility reviews to determine the potential cost and benefit of a full study and recognize opportunities for providing additional services to clients
Contribute as an industry expert by keeping abreast of changes in industry regulation, maintaining competency through continuing education and obtaining additional professional certifications
Assist with drafting opinion letters, responses to IRS inquiries, IRS Ruling requests, and writing other technical memoranda
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in business‑related fields such as Accounting, Economics, or Finance or a Bachelor of Science that includes computer science, engineering, biology, chemistry, or physics from an accredited university
Completion of all educational requirements for CPA licensure eligibility in the state of intended residence or completion of all requirements to sit for the Bar exam by the start date
Minimum of four years of tax experience
Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel
Proven capacity to meet client service, quality, and performance expectations within applicable deadlines and in accordance with firm and client standards
Strong communication skills, including clear, professional, and effective interaction with firm personnel and clients in person, by telephone, and through electronic or written means
Effective project management skills, including managing multiple priorities, tasks, and projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and maintaining accuracy and quality of work in a fast‑paced, client service environment
Experience working effectively in a professional office environment and, as required by the role, at client sites, including sitting for extended periods of time and working at a computer and other standard office equipment
Capacity to maintain a consistent onsite presence during core business hours, including regular reporting to a firm office location and travel to client sites as required, with access to reliable transportation
Ability to work extended and/or non‑standard hours during peak periods or as necessary to meet client, project, or firm business needs
