Proven ability to lead and conduct submarine structural calculations for existing platforms and/or new builds.
Provide an expert opinion on design and fitness for service of submarine structures including:
Submarine pressure hull,
Submarine pressure hull structural features, and
Primary and secondary submarine structures.
Experienced in working with Shipyards, Dockyards, Owners, Class and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) to conduct ship surveys for design and engineering changes, mid-life upgrades and vessel condition documentation.
Knowledge of domain specific standards including International Maritime Organization (IMO) regulations, Class Society rules, Transport Canada Regulations and Canadian Forces Technical Orders.
Maintain a program of Continuing Professional Development to sustain your technical knowledge.
Work with Capability Manager to identify the levels of suitably qualified and experienced personnel (SQEP) required to fulfil current and projected demand.
Work with Capability Manager to identify training or other developmental opportunities to develop SQEP within BMT.
Requirements
Degree in Marine Engineering or Naval Architecture;
Minimum 15 years of experience in Naval Architecture;
Extensive experience working on new build or re-fit of existing submarines.
Existing registration or ability to obtain registration with Professional Engineering governance body in Province of work;
Eligible for a Canadian and International security clearance.
Hold a valid passport and able to travel internationally on a minimum of a 3-month deployment.
Detailed knowledge and experience in the following areas:
Ship or submarine hydrostatics including stability, weight control and margins;
Ship or submarine inclining experiments (submerged and surfaced);
Experience in the in-service support of naval systems and/or engineering design;
Experience in the development and use of technical studies and drawings;
An understanding of specifications for government and commercial vessels;
Experience in systems integration, ship construction and/or repair;
