Review incoming samples for clarity of physician orders; identify cases that do or may require additional information; contact clients for urgent resolution or complex cases
Provide technical expertise to clients regarding optimal management of pregnancies at risk for rare single gene disorders; help clients understand and interpret both diagnostic and screening results
Manage all aspects of sending and reporting specialized genetic tests, including taking incoming client call, reviewing specimen requirements and the need for parental samples, as indicated
Utilize multiple laboratory based computer applications to ensure proper scheduling of specimens submitted for molecular testing
Review and release molecular test reports under the direction of the Clinical Molecular Geneticists (Westborough lab only)
Collaborate on publications and other projects as opportunities arise
Requirements
Masters degree in Human Genetics or Genetic Counseling
American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) certification
2 years or more experience as a certified Genetic Counselor, post completion of Masters program
Massachusetts and California state licenses in Genetic Counseling or ability to obtain prior to start date
1 year or more experience of prenatal and/or carrier Genetic Counseling (preferred)
Highly organized, including excellent time management skills
Strong multi-tasking ability with excellent attention to detail
Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
Strong computer skills; proficiency with Microsoft Office
Previous experience with LIS systems highly desired
Ability to quickly learn new tasks
