Working closely with Lead Category Managers (LCM) to build roadmaps for future product lines and components to be cost modeled
Execute and manage cost modeling by SBD cost modeling methods and outputs
Identify cost savings opportunities and strategies to be used by LCMs in leveraging supplier negotiations
Support development of negotiation strategies using fact-based arguments for use in negotiation decks
Lead team efforts to participate in VAVE events as a part of team’s core competencies
Pursue continuous improvements in the costing of sourced products/components and share analytical results with sourcing managers
Train and educate relevant SBD stakeholders in should cost methodology and negotiations, with an emphasis on development of technical knowledge relevant to cost modeling
Utilize the costing tools like apriori, DFMA, Cleansheet etc, in developing cost models and for cost analytics
Develop training modules that will educate SBU leaders and the overall GSM team on cost modeling and its usefulness in supplier negotiations
Lead and upskill team of cost engineers
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or other related technical field, preferably with a focus in Manufacturing / Mechanical Engineering
5+ years engineering experience, preferably focused on the manufacturing and/or design of mechanical products (particularly with a Design for Manufacturability focus)
Experience working in the Global Supply Management Environment
Lean and quality experience
Strong understanding of various manufacturing technologies such as machining, injection molding, Packaging, die casting, forging, electronics assembly, Wire harness and stamping
Cost Estimating Knowledge
Knowledgeable of typical sources and costs for common components
Ability to apply technical knowledge toward cost reductions (Productivity) in area of expertise
Ability to identify cost drivers and deep dive to prepare reports
Ability to work with multiple sources of data and assumptions, generate effective cost options, and analyze resulting cost models to test and refine estimates
Experience with Lean manufacturing and effects of manufacturing costs that are driven by product design
Experience in CAD and PLM (Product Lifecycle Management software)
Knowledge in sources of supply and potential suppliers in various categories
Ability to challenge supplier costing and work with sourcing team to pursue cost gaps and search for opportunities
