Application Engineer – Sealing

Role Overview

• Serve as the national Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Mechanical Seals and Gasket products across the Motion network
• Elevate technical capability within the sales organisation while driving profitable growth of the sealing category
• Provide national SME for sealing products (gaskets, fluid control, mechanical seals), providing advanced technical expertise and application guidance
• Review operating conditions (pressure, temperature, media, shaft speed, compliance) to ensure correct product selection and engineered solutions
• Support complex quotations and national projects, including failure analysis and root cause investigations
• Ensure alignment with supplier standards and industry best practices in all technical recommendations
• Provide cross-divisional technical sales support, including joint customer visits with sales teams
• Identify conversion, upgrade, and value-based solution opportunities to drive revenue growth and margin improvement
• Develop and deliver structured technical training programs to build national sealing competency
• Create and maintain technical documentation, application guides, and mentor teams in solution-based selling
• Collaborate with Product Management and suppliers on portfolio alignment, new product introductions, quality issues, and market feedback
• Support governance and continuous improvement, including warranty reviews, process standardisation, compliance, and operational best practices

Requirements

• Technical expertise in sealing products, pump systems, and rotating equipment
• Experience in application engineering, technical sales, or MRO/industrial distribution environments
• Strong engineering capability, including interpretation of technical drawings and specifications
• Mechanical engineering qualification or trade background desirable (CAD experience advantageous)
• In-depth knowledge of mechanical seals, sealing systems, gasket materials, and pump fundamentals
• Proven ability to deliver technical training, communicate effectively, and support both independent and team-based work environments
• Highly organised and adaptable professional, with strong problem-solving skills, time management, ability to work under pressure, and commitment to Health & Safety
• Proficient in business systems and tools
• Team player attitude
