Develops high speed and filtered connectors and contacts from the concept phase through production following a Stage Gate process.
Create 3D models and 2D drawings of high speed and filtered connectors and contacts based on electrical, mechanical, and environmental requirements
Establish signal integrity design performance/functional requirements for new product designs
Design PCB’s and test adapters as needed to perform evaluation and validation of connector signal integrity
Prepare and release manufacturing assembly drawings and bills of materials (BOMs).
Initiate and support drawing changes (ECNs, impact assessments, material dispositions)
Support production with manufacturing issues, supplier issues, quality issues, etc. that affect the fiber optic interconnect products.
Prepare labor and material cost estimates for new high speed and filtered connectors and contacts .
Identify non-recurring engineering (NRE) and equipment needs.
Develop qualification test plans that meet customer and/or industry performance requirements
Support procurement in alternate component selections and alternate sourcing.
Interface directly with customer technical personnel to interpret design requirements.
Perform tolerance analysis and FEA on mating designs.
Perform contract review on new revisions to customer specifications
Engineering product setup, design, and lifecycle management
Engineering BOM creation, documentation creation and updates
Multi-functional team member representing Product Engineering
Product Testing/Qualification support and overview within Product Evaluation Lab
Performs other duties as assigned by Engineering Management
Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent technical degree
5 years minimum experience in Mil/Aero high-speed and/or filter connector design
Experienced in creation of Mil/Aero high speed connector and contact component and assembly drawings and documentation
Working knowledge of industry standard communication protocols: 10/100/1G/10G BASE-T Ethernet, Single Pair Ethernet, analog/digital video, 1553 databus, USB , Display Port, HDMI, SATA and experience designing mil/aero connectors meeting these protocols.
Experience with 3D CAD software (Creo, Solidworks, NX, or similar)
Proficiency in using high-speed performance test equipment (network analyzer, Fluke DSX, etc.)
Working knowledge of contact technologies and contact physics theory.
Possess strong analytical capabilities to interpret simulation and lab data to identify issues and provide solutions to fix identified problems.
Experience designing both cable side and PCB connectors.
Familiarity with design for harsh environments.
Working knowledge of electromagnetic theory and electrical circuit behavior
Working knowledge of metal properties: conductivity, corrosion, machining methods, plating options
ASME Y14.5 Dimensioning and Tolerancing, including GD&T
Ability to manage multiple tasks to drive results
Highly self-motivated and a willingness to make a difference and learn
Excellent communication skills and ability to work with different departments.
Working knowledge of MS Office products such as Excel, Word etc...
The ability to travel periodically (up to 10%)
