Pharmacy Technician

Role Overview

• Uses pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information to process prescriptions
• Assists the pharmacists in performing technical duties related to the distribution of drugs to patients
• Monitors medication inventory levels and places orders to restock
• Develops strong relationships with colleagues and customers
• Supports pharmacological services by checking pharmaceutical stock to determine inventory level, placing and expediting orders, reading medication orders and prescriptions, preparing labels, calculating quantities, compounding sterile and non-sterile products, and other pharmaceutical therapies
• Assists pharmacists in preparing and dispensing prescription orders
• Adheres to all pharmacy policies, procedures, and regulations
• Fills medication orders accurately and efficiently
• Assures all medications are properly labeled, checked by a pharmacist, and dispensed in a timely manner
• Prioritizes workload, maintains organization, and coordinates activities with other team members
• Monitors medication expiration dates and ensures no expired medications are in circulation
• Communicates all drug information requests to a pharmacist
• Demonstrates and maintains competency with pharmacy equipment and duties
• Answers the phone and attends to customer needs in a timely manner
• Assists with orientation and training of new pharmacy colleagues
• Maintains adequate inventory of prescription and/or over the counter products in the designated areas

Requirements

• High School Diploma/GED
• Able to work in a fast-paced environment
• Good math skills needed for counting, measuring, and weighing medications
• Basic computer skills
• 1 year pharmacy technician experience (preferred)
• Knowledge of inventory control (preferred)
• Knowledge of brand name/generic medications (preferred)
• Knowledge and ability to use pharmacy automation (preferred)
• CPhT
• Certified Pharmacy Technician
• State of Pennsylvania (preferred)
