2nd Officer – Embarkation

Role Overview

• Responsible for the safe navigation of the vessel and all navigation/routing requirements.
• Assist the Master in developing passage plans and maintaining up-to-date information in Port manuals.
• Prepares voyage plans and itinerary speed templates and forwards them to the Fleet Captain and the Port Captain.
• Provides the Chief Engineer with Navigation information from one port to another on the completion of each cruise leg.
• Ensures the latest edition of all electronic and paper navigational charts and publications are onboard and maintained.
• Responsible for the daily winding of the chronometers, keeping a record book of their errors.
• Ensures all ship’s clocks are always showing the correct time zone and issues/distributes relative notes to heads of departments.
• Maintains all navigation equipment and is fully aware of their handling and operation.
• Keeps records of ship’s compass errors.
• Attends to the operation and maintenance of the ship’s steering gear and automatic pilot.

Requirements

• Chief Officer’s License
• Training in accordance with STCW
• Previous experience as a Watch Officer
• Ability to communicate in the English language
• Ability to communicate in the German Language
