About this role
Role Overview
Perform complex field service activities across the assigned geographic area with minimal supervision, including installation, commissioning, decommissioning, troubleshooting, and maintenance of network and customer services.
Install, test, turn up, troubleshoot, and maintain telecommunications equipment, including SONET, TDM, DWDM, IP, Ethernet-based platforms, transport equipment, DC power systems, and related critical infrastructure.
Conduct OTDR, Ethernet, BER, SONET, circuit, optical, electrical, and power acceptance testing using appropriate test equipment and documented procedures.
Complete preventative and demand maintenance for network facilities, critical infrastructure, fiber assets, and materials to support service reliability and operational readiness.
Identify, analyze, and resolve potential network issues before they become service-affecting events, including root cause analysis and corrective actions identified through routine maintenance or troubleshooting.
Perform site surveys and field inspections for building entrance requirements, equipment space availability, cabinets, buried cable, construction sites, outside plant facilities, and related network environments.
Prepare accurate documentation, reports, site surveys, audit reports, closeout materials, and system updates; communicate effectively with customers, peers, management, contractors, and other stakeholders.
Act as a technical resource and coach by providing guidance to less experienced technicians, assigning or coordinating work as appropriate, evaluating team performance, and supporting knowledge transfer.
Participate in project meetings, cross-functional forums, on-call rotations, dispatch, overtime, occasional long shifts, and overnight travel while following safety requirements, vehicle policies, and applicable procedures.
Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent required
Minimum of four (4) years of telecommunications field experience installing, testing, turning up, troubleshooting, and maintaining network equipment including SONET, TDM, DWDM, and IP-based equipment
ISP, DC Power, OTDR experience required
Basic telecommunications and/or industry safety training required; advanced telecommunications training preferred
Previous experience supporting, mentoring, or coaching less experienced technicians preferred
Valid state-issued driver’s license required; must maintain company vehicle eligibility, including no more than two moving violations within the past three years
