Leads and prepares medium-to-large bids and proposals
Can lead team to calculate and prepare bid and proposal submissions on large complex contracts
Captures and understands trade scopes and communicates gaps and missing information
Conducts detailed analysis of contract documents and specifications to determine and validate overall project requirements
Ensures the completion of full quantity take-offs of all labor, equipment, and materials from project documents and identifies missing information
Leads pricing of the general expense and project-specific general requirements for medium-to-large projects (lump sum and construction management)
Performs conceptual quantity takeoffs to support construction management and design-build pursuits
Supports the estimate lead by populating tender forms, generating requests for information, anticipating proposal requirements, and assisting to establish a pursuit schedule
Conducts risk and opportunity analysis by reviewing all bid related documents and utilizing project and industry knowledge
Reviews all bids, performs bid evaluation, and selects the best trade contractor pricing
Performs bid-day assignments and supporting other estimators to successfully close various scopes
Coordinates with internal departments and external stakeholders to create site logistics, a schedule, an execution plan, and project budget requirements
Completes and presents final cost estimate and tender submission to chief estimator and district management for review and approval before submission to the client
Establishes a critical path schedule for the estimate/pursuit and reviewing work completed by estimators on the pursuit
Takes ownership of medium-to-large estimates or a component of larger estimates and is accountable for that specific work scope
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree or diploma in related discipline or trade experience or equivalent
8 years of progressive experience in construction cost estimating, and 6–12 months of on-site experience is preferred
Successfully led pursuits valued at up to $150 million in delivery model hard bid and lump sum, construction management/cost reimbursable/target price, and design-build
Knowledge of different construction methods; planning, scheduling, sequencing, quality, safety, and timelines
Extensive knowledge of key principles involved in bid preparation; including quantity takeoff procedures and systems, subtrade partner procurement, pricing, interdepartmental functions, general expense philosophy and bid-closing procedures
Understanding of compensation models, market conditions, business trends, internal historical information and competitors to develop win strategies
Experience estimating multiple scopes, with the capability of building conceptual estimates
Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with stakeholders including the ability to solicit subtrade partners and suppliers
Working knowledge of estimating software, advanced skills using Microsoft Office Suite and a strong aptitude for adopting new technology.
