Functions as an assistant to physicians and staff in the application, maintenance and removal of splints, casts, and other orthopedic medical devices.
Monitors and orders casting and other medical appliances, including instruments.
Performs splinting and casting under the direction of an orthopedic physician or resident.
Applies, adjusts, measures and educates patients on medical appliances and equipment.
Documents the care administered into electronic medical records.
Orders and maintains all clinical supplies including Durable Medical Equipment (DME), casting and clinical supplies.
Cleans and organizes the cast room so that supplies are stocked and ready for use.
Implements policies and procedures in the clinical offices.
Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent high school certification or combination of education and/or experience.
Basic Life Support certification must be obtained within one month of hire date.
Related work experience or training as an Orthopedic Technologist, Medical Assistant, Cast Technician or Certified Athletic Trainer are preferred.
Certifications include Basic Life Support from American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
No specific work experience is required for this position.
