The Education Specialist: Curriculum and Instruction project manages special projects relating to PreK-12 education programs and educator professional development.
They are responsible for leading and developing all PreK-12 STEM curricula for the Education Department including workshops, educator professional development, family programs, conference presentations and camps.
Engaging and educating PreK-12 students, educators and their caregivers about STEM and various sciences with the use of age appropriate, inquiry based, hands-on activities in an informal setting.
Deliver educational content in hands-on workshops, educator professional development, and family programming both on and off museum grounds.
Performs the function of project manager for assigned special projects relating to PreK-12 education and out-of-school time learning.
Works in conjunction with the Director of Education Initiatives to foster relationships with external partners, develop timelines and contracts as needed to ensure completion of all grant and sponsor deliverables for assigned projects.
Monitors quality control for all education curricula and updates existing programs and content as needed.
Maintains a safe and secure environment for guests and staff.
Requirements
A bachelor’s degree in education, science, communication, or theater with a minimum of 2-3 years’ experience working with students and teachers.
Prior teaching experience with PreK-12 students, educators, and caregivers.
Knowledge of state standards and experience developing and leading informal education programs featuring best practice.
Ability to work in a fast paced, team-oriented environment.
Ability to establish and maintain an effective rapport with others.
Excellent communication skills; presentation and public speaking.
Reliable, organized, self-starter.
Ability to work with little direct supervision.
Enthusiastic, friendly, outgoing; must love working with people.
Employee must possess a valid Florida driver’s license or obtain one within 30 days of beginning employment, maintain an acceptable driving record as stipulated by OSC’s insurance carrier.
