Plays a vital role as part of the surgical team, working closely alongside surgeons, nurses, and other healthcare professionals in the operating room
Assists directly during surgical procedures by preparing the operating room, arranging surgical instruments, and ensuring a sterile environment is maintained
Performs tasks such as passing instruments, retracting tissue, and operating equipment during surgery
Participates in counting sharps, instruments, and sponges
Ensures that all surgeon preference cards and pick lists are accurate
Participates in or leads the training and orientation of surgical technology staff and students, as assigned
Requirements
High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge and current basic life support certification
Must be registered with State Regulatory Agency where applicable
Certified as a surgical technologist OR two to three years of experience in a surgical technologist role
Manual dexterity and ability to maintain professional decorum in highly stressful emergent situations
Ability to be conscientious, organized, and orderly and respond quickly to the needs of the surgeon and patient
Proficiency to scrub in a minimum of two surgical specialties
