Compile and assess publicly available fisheries datasets, including evaluating data gaps and data processing needs.
Develop research questions to assess the presence, extent, and impacts of fishing activities in existing and proposed MPAs (marine protected areas).
Recommend processes and methods to address these questions and, where possible, identify the technical or specialized expertise required to carry out this work.
Provide context on fisheries management and MPAs across Canada’s three coasts to inform future work.
Make recommendations for project implementation, including required expertise, staffing, work organization, timelines, and project budgets.
Requirements
At least seven years of professional or academic experience (or an equivalent combination) in fisheries management, preferably within the Canadian context.
Strong knowledge of marine conservation, marine spatial planning, and MPAs in Canada.
Expertise in management and interpretation of spatial data.
