About this role
Role Overview
Applies a basic knowledge of information security and risk mitigation principles, theories and techniques in daily work.
Must uphold, enforce and abide by all University policies.
Work independently and as part of a team to research and evaluate applications and services for use by the institution.
Continuously monitor security systems and alerts to identify potential threats or unusual activities.
Respond to security incidents by investigating alerts, containing threats, and mitigating damage.
Analyze and interpret security data to understand and anticipate potential threats and vulnerabilities.
Review and analyze logs from various sources to detect anomalies and breaches.
Operate and manage security tools and technologies, such as firewalls and intrusion detection systems.
Document incidents, responses, and resolutions, providing detailed reports to management.
Research and recommend cybersecurity-related applications and services.
Author knowledge base articles based on best practices in cybersecurity.
Perform risk assessments and determine the level of risk within each application or service.
Facilitate the day to day needs of the department such as handling cybersecurity-related tickets and investigate reported phishing scams.
Assist with maintaining our vulnerability scanning server and application.
Perform compliance audits against University accepted cybersecurity controls.
Analyze SOC data to identify patterns or inefficiencies.
Create dashboards or visualizations to communicate key performance indicators (KPIs).
Assist in planning and evaluating educational and awareness cybersecurity activities appropriate for campus audiences.
Review and update documentation for policies, procedures, standards and guidelines.
Help coordinate cybersecurity projects, such as tool implementations or policy updates.
Must complete a background check with MU Police Department or HireRight.
Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
An interest in information security.
Good verbal and written communication skills.
Critical thinking skills.
Conscientious and attentive to detail.
Ability to work effectively within a team environment.
Able to maintain confidentiality while handling and viewing confidential information.
Concentration in Information Security or Information Technology.
Skills in use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Google Sheets and Docs.
Skill with programming languages such as Python, JAVA, and/or SQL.
Knowledge of network infrastructure including VLANS and firewalls.
