Reports to the Coordinator, Information Systems & Cartography Planning.
Prepares, maintains, updates, manipulates and analyses the digital maps and associated databases related to the department’s Geographic Information System.
Maintains planning related corporate spatial and tabular data and creates custom databases and thematic maps in support of special projects/reports.
Performs quality assurance/quality control tasks to ensure data integrity.
Maintains, updates, and analyses departmental GIS data using ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online.
Performs manual and automated quality assurance/quality control data validity check to ensure the integrity of data.
Undertakes and assists in the analysis and reconciliation of conflicting data, whether from a spatial or tabular sources.
Compiles source document work packages for data conversion.
Assembles a wide range of data sources/types including vector, raster, CAD and imagery data for mapping and spatial analysis.
Plots plans/maps and creates custom thematic maps, web maps, and presentation layouts using ArcGIS Pro (ESRI Suite), Microsoft Suite and/or Adobe Creative Suite to effectively convey information.
Prepares special data reports, dashboards, and data visualizations to support planning and operational reporting and decision-making, for public and internal use.
Develops and implements automated processes to streamline workflows as appropriate.
Considers and implements AODA-compliant accessibility standards in data, mapping and report outputs.
Receives and answers enquiries from staff and the public.
Assists Planners in the preparation of reports and presentations.
Assists with the creation and maintenance of custom applications.
Follows the established request management practices and procedures.
Assists in the development and review of procedures.
Demonstrates system functions and workflow procedures.
Provides software support for geo-spatial applications.
Identifies and assists in the resolution of problems related to geo-spatial software, geo-spatial data and the department’s Geographic Information System as a whole.
Identifies and requests supplies, software and special equipment requirements.
Works in accordance with the provisions of applicable Health and Safety legislation and all City of Hamilton corporate and departmental policies and procedures related to Occupational Health and Safety.
Performs other duties as assigned which are directly related to the major responsibilities of the job.
Requirements
Previous GIS experience related to duties listed above normally acquired through a Diploma from a two-year Community College course in GIS or related program and related work experience.
Demonstrated ability to compile, input, prepare and analyse data from various sources within and for use in geospatial applications, including performing manual and automated quality assurance/quality control data validity checks, plotting plans, and retrieval of landbase data.
Working knowledge of the ESRI Suite of products (ArcPro, Extensions, ArcGIS Online etc), Microsoft Suite of tools, Adobe Creative Suite, FME, and databases.
