Serve as a senior technical contributor responsible for the stability, compliance, and continuous operation of COBOL-based applications that support client implementation and ongoing maintenance
Act as a trusted technical partner to internal stakeholders by troubleshooting complex system issues and guiding teams through process improvements and federally mandated changes
Analyze user requirements and translate them into technical solutions using COBOL
Develop, modify, and maintain COBOL programs for batch and online processing
Perform debugging, troubleshooting, and resolving issues in existing COBOL applications
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including business analysts and QA testers, to deliver reliable solutions
Document code changes and system processes for future reference
Ensure compliance with company standards and best practices for software development
Requirements
Strong proficiency in COBOL programming, including experience with mainframe systems (e.g., IBM z/OS)
Familiarity with related technologies such as JCL, CICS, DB2, or VSAM
Experience with SAS, NDM, FILE-AID, CompairX, Datamover, BlueZone
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
Experience with modernization projects or migration from legacy systems
Knowledge of financial or insurance industry applications
Understanding of Agile or Waterfall development methodologies
General use of JIRA, Confluence
