Role Overview
- Evaluate applications of the highest financial impact and complexity
- Analyze decisions without compromising overall underwriting policies
- Work independently and guide junior colleagues
- Identify solutions to work-related problems (i.e. Work flow, systems)
- Negotiate and manage time and resources to meet deadlines and service times
- Provide training and act as an information resource
- Process auditing, formal appeal reviews, and contestable claim review
- Audit applications and medical record summaries
- Assist management with research projects regarding risk assessment
- Review underwriting fraud referrals and contestable claims
- Maintain relationships within a self-directed team environment
- Process formal underwriting appeals and complaints
Requirements
- College graduate or business equivalent
- Preferably 7 or more years of underwriting experience or exposure
- Strong knowledge of underwriting function
- Sound knowledge of John Hancock's various businesses
- Strong knowledge of referral areas
- Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong analytical skills
- Excellent ability to create and maintain customer relationships
- Ability to prioritize and work effectively under deadlines
- Strong ability to comprehend, retain and apply current technical information
