The Mechanical Field Engineer will provide project field engineering expertise, ensuring that field engineering activities operate safely and conform to quality standards and project requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Provides knowledge and expertise in a particular discipline, subject matter, or specialized process required for construction (e.g., tunnel boring, site de-watering, glove boxes, special coatings systems, HVAC systems, Fire Detection and Suppression, reactor tender gallery coordinator, etc.)
- Provides technical consultation support to projects
- Prepares construction drawings and sketches
- Leads preparation of construction drawings and schedules and the design of temporary construction facilities and ensures preparation of "as built" drawings and other job plans
- Initiates requisitions for field purchases
- Prepares quantity takeoffs of field purchased material and equipment
- Leads the verification of commodities on quantity tracking systems or other computer database systems as required
- Ensures zero accident philosophy and requirements are implemented and adhered to by craft and others when in the operational area, and tools and equipment are in safe condition and operated safely
- Proactively considers continuous learning or show interest to pursue appropriate learning activities
- Reviews and approves inspection test plans
Requirements:
- Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 10-13 years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience
- Translates UG/AG piping design into executable work—expert at reading isos, plans, specs, and models; resolves constructability issues, tie-ins, and clashes before they hit the field
- Controls quality and technical compliance—verifies trenching, bedding, slope, supports, fit-up, welding, coatings, backfill, and testing in accordance with codes and project specs
- Manages field quantities and progress—tracks installed quantities, supports progress measurement, and provides accurate inputs for schedule and cost control
- Supports planning and AWP—packages UG/AG work into IWPs, identifies constraints (access, inspections, materials, test boundaries), and supports look-ahead readiness
- Acts as field problem-solver and coordinator—interfaces daily with superintendents, survey, QC, subcontractors, and other disciplines to keep work moving and avoid rework
- Experience in semiconductor, EV battery, data centers, or Pharmaceuticals preferred
- Hands-on implementation of AWP and OSM strategies; experience with project setup, system turnover, and completion preferred
- Proficiency with digital execution tools, 4D/5D planning, and analytics preferred
