The Principal R&D/Product Development Engineer will be responsible for product development, qualification, and driving innovation solutions while mentoring and guiding less experienced engineers.
Responsibilities:
- Create relationships with customer innovators and influencers
- Coordinate and facilitate technical engineering-related communications for internal and external customers
- Define, coordinate, and drive activities from a technical perspective with broad visibility
- Develop business-relevant innovation solutions
- Create or control the product design standard for key technology used by other engineers
- Contribute key elements to the technical roadmap of the project team
- Provide high-level engineering solutions to support technical requirements
- Contribute to business unit technical function initiatives
- Drive innovation and execution to increase competitiveness at the business unit level
- Build a culture of agile adaptation that responds to environmental changes
- Provide guidance and complex subject matter training to less experienced engineers
- Mentor and coach other engineers
- Represent TE externally at trade shows and conferences through technical papers or seminars
- Lead development of key strategic products
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree (considered) or Master's degree (preferred) or higher in mechanical engineering
- 10 years or more of mechanical engineering product development experience
- Expert-level knowledge in the connector and cable assembly industry
- High competency in technical tools, including 3D and 2D CAD (PTC Creo preferred, Ansys SpaceClaim beneficial), 3D CAE simulation applications (Ansys preferred), geometric dimensions and tolerances, and design for manufacturability
- Leader in the full product development cycle from establishing customer requirements to releasing a qualified design to production
- Detailed understanding of manufacturing processes, including stamping, molding, plating, and assembly
- Solid understanding of competitive products and intellectual property positions
- Skilled in working on complex technical issues with the ability to communicate them clearly to management, customers, and the technical community
- Ability to work in a global environment, accommodating various time zones, and collaborating with colleagues from various cultures and geographies
